And he's off!

My "little" brother went into the MTC this week. For the last three weeks, we have been hanging out as much as possible, getting in all the fun we could have! We celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas with him all before he left. Sounds funny, but we had so much fun!! He wasn't the only one who got presents either! He got Teniah a little missionary teddy bear, it is so cute!

Tuesday he got set apart and he and my parents came by to say good bye. Sounds funny, but I could hardly look at him! I know he is where he needs to be, but he's my little brother, and I was going to miss him! He's the only brother I have! Those of you who know him, know that he is somewhat soft spoken, but he actually talks to me...surprising I know! We were having so much fun working together too! And that's been hard already, my muscles are gone! hehe So we were able to talk for a bit, I gave him a couple hugs, cried a few tears and he was on his way!

When he got his call, three months seemed like such a long time! But it sure went by fast. :0) Here's too hoping that the next two go by quickly too!

It really is hard to say goodbye for so long, BUT your brother will truly be BLESSED and your family will also be blessed. It is a humbling feeling to serve the Lord. I would not trade those 18 months for the world. It was just AMAZING, your brother will have some truly AMAZING and unfortable experiences ahead of him.

Mel,

When Ty left for Russia I deeply sobbed on the way home from the airport, and for weeks afterward when I let myself think about it, I would cry. I had a hidden dread that the Russian mafia would arrest him and he wouldn't come back and it left a large lump in my throat.:o) And here I am trying to discreetly shed a few tears at the library as I remember how much I hated seeing him get on that plane. Toni made me a blanket "from" him--sewing lines all messed up and everything:o) with a card in Russian when Rachel was born that year--I don't know how she knew how deep I missed my little bro because I didn't talk about it to anyone, but it was the perfect gift "from" him. There's just something about younger brothers that pulls at their older sister's heart strings, and I understand you completely. I feel the same for Robert. I remember when that little stinker brother fell off the rope swing and hit his head and blacked out--I was never more scared that I might lose him and I booked it back home to get Dad. He was annoying and a twerp and called me Troll, but he was my brother and I loved him. I'm full of admiration for his triatholon accomplishment and am proud to claim relation to such an athletic stud-muffin:o)

Love, Amb

I know how that feels, only from a mother's perspective. I remember when Justin left, I literally felt a huge black hole in my heart. It was the same with all my sons. I remember when you and Robert moved to Colorado and how sad I was. it is so fun to have you living so close and be able to see your girls grow up. They are absolute dolls and so good. They are amazing to me, how good they are and how obedient. Love those little girls. thanks for living here and please don't EVER move away again!!!! hint hin

Love you
Mom P

It's such a bittersweet time. So happy that he's making such a wonderful choice to serve the Lord, and yet it's so hard to let him go. My older brother and I were 18 mos. apart and we were so close and it was such a tough thing to say goodbye. The set-up at the MTC in all its efficiency only seemed to add to the finality of it all:) What a great experience for your brother--your family will be blessed too by his service--it's funny how that happens!
